Project Introduction:

The cement grinding station of the plant was using Siemens Simatic S5. The existing system was outdated, no longer supported by the manufacturer, and faced difficulties in sourcing replacement parts. This posed a risk of system downtime at any time in the event of a failure, leading to production interruptions with no feasible recovery. To ensure system reliability and continuous production, ESTEC provided an upgrade solution by replacing the old S5 system with a new, advanced, compact, and highly reliable Simatic S7 IO cabinet system, directly connected to the plant’s existing S7 400 PLC.

Works, solutions, and products provided by ESTEC:

  • Digitalization and standardization of the existing control system design for the Grinding Station (which had undergone many changes from the original design during operation).
  • Dismantling of the plant’s existing S5 PLC cabinet system.
  • Installation of ET 200SP IO cabinet system equipped with plug & play terminal blocks from Phoenix Contact, facilitating easy installation and maintenance.

Customer Benefits:

  • The project was delivered on schedule and fully met all customer requirements.
  • ESTEC’s experienced engineers provided strong support during installation, inspection, and system commissioning, ensuring the plant’s production schedule was not affected, while also guiding the handover and operation of the system at site.
  • The system operates reliably and stably, with easy operation and maintenance.
  • After project completion, the system became more compact and modular, allowing future upgrades or replacements with minimal system downtime.
  • High-quality and professional services delivered by ESTEC’s skilled engineering team.

Project Results:

  • The delivered system met the quality commitments made to the customer.
  • Installation and construction were completed ahead of schedule, enabling the system to be ready for operation when the plant resumed production.
  • The system was accurately engineered and implemented according to actual site conditions, ensuring stable operation without failures that could lead to production shutdowns.
  • Additional requirements from the plant were promptly addressed by ESTEC without affecting the overall project schedule.
